Chief Risk Officer & General Counsel
Rachael Newsome oversees Jarden’s risk and compliance function, as well as regulatory and governance strategies. She works across the business to set the tone of our conduct and identify and respond to areas of risk. She also manages external relationships with regulatory and governing bodies, and is the legal partner and key adviser to Jarden’s CEO and board.
Rachael has over 15 years’ experience in commercial and corporate law. Prior to joining Jarden in 2019, she was General Counsel and Strategist at Icebreaker, leading a capital raise and subsequent sale of the business, and managing governance and legal requirements for the global team. She was previously Corporate Counsel and later, Head of Direct Products at NZX, where she was responsible for market data and products, indices and Smartshares. Rachael has also worked in investment banking in London.
Rachael has an LLB/BCA (Marketing) from Victoria University of Wellington and is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. She is a member of the Institute of Directors and holds a number of external board and advisory board positions.
Rachael grew up on a Southland farm and while her tractor driving skills are not often called for in Auckland, she loves taking advantage of the great Kiwi lifestyle and getting out into the outdoors with her family.
